Community Connections at the Southwest Philly Harvest Fest: Empowering Education and Strengthening Bonds

This past Sunday, October 20th, our educational nonprofit was thrilled to support and participate in the Southwest Philly Harvest Fest at the vibrant Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s Garden. It was a day of fun, learning, and meaningful engagement with families, local organizations, and community leaders. The event served as a perfect platform to share our mission, connect with the community, and foster support for educational advancement in underserved areas.

A Celebration of Community, Culture, and Learning

The Harvest Fest was more than just a celebration of the season—it was an opportunity for families to come together and experience the richness of Philadelphia’s local culture. The festival featured a wide variety of activities, from arts and crafts, garlic planting, and cider pressing, to hands-on pumpkin painting and group fitness sessions. Additionally, there were orchard tours, live performances, and a special FloatLab celebration offering free fishing, all of which brought the community closer together.

Our organization set up a booth at the festival to engage with parents, children, and other local stakeholders. We were excited to share information about the work we’re doing to provide transformative educational experiences for children in underserved communities. In the heart of Kpotoloma Town, nestled within the Sanoyea District of Bong County, Liberia, the joyful sounds of children’s laughter mingled with the rhythmic beat of drums and the soulful melodies of local songs. It was a special day at Mulbah Woodtor's Early Learning Academy—one that would be remembered for years to come.

As the sun climbed to its zenith, the schoolyard began to fill with excitement. Children, dressed in their best clothes, wore wide smiles that spoke of anticipation and happiness. Today was not just any day; it was the School Closing Program, a celebration of their hard work throughout the year, and a day when the community would come together in a unique display of unity and gratitude.

Our educational nonprofit organization had the honor of being a part of this momentous occasion. Earlier in the year, we made a promise—to support the education and well-being of these young minds by donating a wide range of books and toys. And now, as we stood amidst the vibrant gathering, it was clear that our small gesture had touched the hearts of many.

The festivities began with the beat of traditional drums, signaling the start of a joyous celebration. Community members, young and old, gathered in a circle, swaying to the music, their bodies moving in sync with the rhythm. The drummers, with expressions of concentration and joy, poured their hearts into every beat, creating a sound that resonated deep within the soul.
